HOUSTON, TEXAS — We all love spooky Halloween, but the Temple Owls Volleyball team celebrated it rather too soon. They suffered their 17th loss of the season on Friday, Oct. 29 against the Houston Cougars (19-5, 9-3) in three straight sets. The Owls are now 5-17 (1-10 in the conference) with only a set victory in the last four games. In other words, three of the four consecutive games they lost were 3-0 blowouts.

It was all Houston in the first set, crushing the Owls by nearly double digits, 25-13. The Owls had twice as many errors as Houston did, eight to four. They also allowed as many as six unanswered points.

The Owls attempted to bounce back with six unanswered points in the second set, but the comeback fell short as they lost 20-25.

The third set is self-explanatory as the Owls lost 17-25 and called it a game.

The Owls were outnumbered in every major stat, but the difference maker was the blocks. They only had three blocks while Houston had 12. The level of skill sets in blocks was mismatched, and Houston liked to call it the “Block Party.”

Miray Bolukbasi led the Owls in 16 kills, while Abbie Jackson was the leading scorer for Houston with 15 kills. Jackson also reached 1000 career kills, becoming the 20th Cougars to do so.

The Owls will travel to New Orleans for another AAC matchup against 13-10 (6-5) Tulane at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Sunday, October 31st at 1 PM. The Green Wave lost two straight games. The last time two teams played against each other was on October 1st at Philadelphia, where Temple lost 3-1.
