Temple Men’s Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

Temple’s non-conference schedule for Aaron McKie’s first season as the Owls’ head coach was announced earlier on Tuesday.

The Owls will play at least 32 games during the 2019-20 regular season, 15 of which will be played at the Liacouras Center. Three Power 5 opponents – Missouri, Miami (FL) and USC – are slated on the Owls’ schedule.

The first of the 13 non-conference games is the season opener against Drexel on Nov. 5 at the Liacouras Center. Four days later Morgan State University will visit Temple.  

After Temple’s first Big 5 matchup against LaSalle on Nov. 16, the Owls will travel to the west coast to play USC on the road for the first time in program history on Nov. 22. 

Temple will host fellow Big 5 foes St. Joesph’s on Dec 10 and Villanova on Feb. 16. The Owls other Big 5 road game is against Penn on Jan. 25 at The Palestra. Temple went 2-2 in Big 5 play last season with losses against Villanova and Penn. The Owls haven’t beat Villanova since 2012.

The Owls could potentially face more Power 5 opponents during the eight-team Orlando Invitational starting on Nov. 28, but the Invitational’s bracket has yet to be made. The Orlando Invitational includes Davidson, Fairfield, Harvard, Marquette, Maryland, Texas A&M and USC. ESPN will broadcast each game of the mid-season invitational. 

After the Orlando Invitational, Temple will return to North Broad to host Missouri to complete the schools’ home-and-home series. Temple defeated Missouri 79-77 last season in Columbia, Missouri.

For the second season in a row, the Owls will travel to Brooklyn for a neutral site game. This time Temple will play Miami (FL) on Dec. 17 at the Barclays Center. The Owls went 1-1 in two games in Brooklyn. The matchup against the Hurricanes will be apart of the Inaugural Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational.

Temple’s full 2019-20 schedule, which includes the times and dates of each American Athletic Conference matchup, will be released in August.
