Slayyyter @ The Fillmore

Though the bunny ears and southern redneck attire that filled the crowd would make you think you’re at a hoedown, Slayyyter delivered a dance-pop rock set that she’s been performing at huge venues and festivals this past summer. Slayyyter has taken over the internet and charts with her new album WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, but she is not new to the scene. She has been making music since 2019 with hits like “Mine” and “Daddy AF” that you would’ve heard on everyone’s TikTok during Covid. Since then, Slayyyter has played with a new sound that has given her more attention in recent times. This new sound is what excited me to see her in concert.

Imagine this, you’re in the crowd having just watched Pearly Drops perform their opening set. You’re looking at Slayyyters trailer park themed set with clothes on wires, a real life lamppost hanging over her band and a literal mobile home taking up half the stage. It’s dark and you can feel the crowd waiting for something to start. Slayyyter opened her set with “DANCE…,” an electronic, high energy song that starts with a buzzy synth and drum line that kicks the song into a 2000s club inspired melody. The crowd screams, and before you know it, synths and drums are vibrating the room and lights are flashing to the rhythm of the drums. Tension builds in the room, and right when you think it’s never going to end, Slayyyter walks out and steals the stage. She’s in a green long sleeve and her signature trucker hat, fitting in with the rest of the crowd. Slayyyter is a natural performer who knows exactly who she is, whipping her head while the wind blows her hair and giving everyone in the audience a show they’ll never forget.

Slayyyter riles up the crowd playing unreleased music and more hits from her newest album. Then the moment everyone is waiting for….to CRANK IT! Slayyyter plays her biggest hit yet, “CRANK” which completely takes over the crowd. Unsurprisingly, Slayyyter makes the song sound even more cathartic and fun live, which I could say for every song that was performed that night. The momentum from there never stops, everyone is dancing and screaming for the full hour and a half of enlightenment. Slayyyter performs “CANNABALISM!” while riding a horse pulled from a carousel you’d see at a state fair.

Smoke and multicolored strobe lights fill the whole venue along with bubble show right before she leaves for the encore. Fans are obviously not done with Slayyyter, screaming her name over and over again until she comes out to perform my personal favorite, “BEAT UP CHANEL$,” along with it’s sister song, “brand new chanel$,” from her highly anticipated brother album, wor$t man in america. Slayyyter ends the show in center stage, looking majestic as she waves goodbye to the crowd, leaving us gob-smacked in a visceral state we will always remember.

Although the show ended, Slayyyter is not done. She has an upcoming album, wor$t man in america, that everyone should be excited for, and more shows until February 2027.

I am forever hungover and desperate for more after seeing Slayyyter live.
