People’s Choice Awards New “Game Changer” Award Presenters Make a Statement

The People’s Choice awards is introducing a new award category called the “Game
Changer of 2018,” according to Deadline.com the award “recognizes an athlete who’s had a
social and professional impact this year.” Here are the five nominees:
Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers QB, who protested against social and
racial injustices in 2016 by kneeling during the National Anthem is up for the award. Despite
seemingly being blackballed from the NFL, Kaepernick has already donated over $1 million of
NFL earnings to social justice charities according to Business Insider.
Serena Williams, the 23 time Grand Slam winning tennis player, is also up for the award.
Williams is an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and recently appeared
topless in a music video to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Olympic Gymnast Aly Raisman along with other current and former U.S Olympic
gymnast stood up and testified against U.S Gymnastics physician Dr. Larry Nassar in his sexual
abuse trial.
Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo for his philanthropic and his extensive charity work,
according to ESPN.com “In 2015 Ronaldo was named the world's most charitable sportsperson
by dosomething.org.”
The final nominee is WWE Wrestler and star of the E! reality show “Total Divas,” Nia
Jax who’s been a strong advocate for body positivity and women embracing who they are.
The winners will be announced November 11 th when the People’s Choice Awards air on
E!
