Temple University’s Tyler School of Art has introduced that it will be offering a new major starting in Fall 2017.

Tyler School of Art will be offering a Bachelor of Arts in art therapy. This major will be part of the art education and community arts practices department. The program will have an emphasis on extensive community field work.

Associate Vice Dean Carmina Cianciulli said that “fieldwork is required.” Cianciulli believes this program will prepare students for their master’s degree in art therapy, since an advanced degree is necessary in order to be a certified art therapist.

Joshua Winston is an undeclared student in the Tyler School of Art.

“I was excited when I heard about this new major,” Winston said. “I would be interested in joining once I find out all the full requirements.”

According to Cianciulli, Tyler has already received two student deposits, and is expecting many more.
