Temple Women’s Basketball Falls to Houston

The up and coming Houston Cougars took down the Owls in an aggressive matchup, 99-75. Houston commanded the lead for the entirety of the game, with Temple coming back to tie on two occasions early in the first quarter. This was Houston’s first win against Temple, with the Owls leading the all-time series 7-1.
Guarding the three was difficult for Temple all day, as the Cougars went 15-26 from downtown compared to the Owls’ 6-15. Defense was something that Houston did not lack, as they had 12 steals and three blocks, and turning the ball over 13 times.
Tensions were high all the way until the end, and that became more evident the more the win margin widened. “I just try to stay locked in and try to do my part,” freshman Emani Mayo said on trying to deal with the frustration. Mayo was the only player to be on the court for the full 40 minutes. She ended the day with 14 points and three rebounds.
Senior guard Tanaya Atkinson and freshman forward Mia Davis each knocked down 20 points. Atkinson nabbed five boards while Davis finished the night with six. From the Cougars, sophomore guard Jasmyne Harris led the day with 29 points, followed by sophomore guard Angela Harris with 24.
Temple is 9-8 in the regular season as they look for their second conference win when they host the #1 University of Connecticut Huskies on Sunday, January 21st at 1 pm.
