On Thursday, March 12th, Philadelphia’s indie-rock music scene was in full force at MilkBoy Center City as Echo Kid, The Tisburys and Thesaurus Rex took the stage.
The local band Echo Kid, a rock ‘ n ‘ roll six-piece group, opened the show and immediately set the tone with a lively, upbeat performance. They brought an infectious energy to the stage, blending tight musicianship with a loose, fun-loving vibe. The band’s chemistry was evident throughout the performance, giving the set a cohesive, feel-good momentum. One standout moment came when they played their new track “You Are the Sunshine,” which had the crowd dancing along. With plenty of Philly supporters in the audience, the band’s enthusiasm was clearly reciprocated. You’ll definitely want to catch their next show in NYC on 3/30!
Next up were fellow Philadelphia indie rockers The Tisburys. Tyler Asay leads the band, steering the ship with sharp songwriting. Their upcoming album, “A Still Life Revisited,” was crafted in the most collaborative way possible and we were definitely able to witness their passion as a band on stage. Their music is catchy and clearly crafted with a ton of soul by The Tisbury’s. They kept the crowd engaged throughout the entire set, chatting between songs and getting everyone clapping along. The Tisbury’s also debuted new songs like “Waiting for the Breakdown,” giving fans a sneak peek before the record drops on April 25 and it was nothing short of amazing- I’ll be looking forward to it!

Wrapping up the night, Brooklyn’s Thesaurus Rex stormed the stage. The four-piece—Calvin Rezen on vocals and guitar, Varun Jhunjhunwalla on lead guitar, Dan MacDonald on drums, and Ethan Marsh on bass—knows how to make an impression. Rezen started things off with jokes, immediately breaking the ice and putting everyone in a good mood. Their songs fill a room with an energy that is inviting and intoxicating. Thesaurus Rex’s music does an incredible job of balancing storytelling with dynamic musicianship, brought to life by Rezen’s commanding vocals and the tight support of the band behind him. Fans squeezed near the stage, dancing and singing along. By the end, you could see Thesaurus Rex gathering steam—winning over new fans and solidifying their place as authentic musicians. Their music is witty, sometimes irreverent, always relatable, and just flat-out fun. No one walked out of tonight’s Milkboy show without a smile. If you didn’t know about Thesaurus Rex before, you better start listening because they are certainly going places.
