REVIEW: Jordan Ward @ Theater of Living Arts

REVIEW & PHOTOS BY: Sydney Martin

Gracing the stage with his infectious charisma, Jordan Ward’s Apartment tour landed in Theatre
of the Living Arts, one of the many stops on his global tour. A living representation of the
potential an artist’s devotion holds, and an ode to the album’s themes of the periods of solitude
inherent and necessary to one’s craft; although we may create alone, it allows a sturdy
foundation for community to blossom from. That community that Jordan has curated since he
launched his professional music career in 2017 was evident across the packed floor, balconies,
and the lines snaking out the door of fans waiting in the rain.

Playing fan favorites such as WHITE CROCS (with Ryan Trey) and FAMJAM4000 balanced the
mellow tones that pepper across BACKWARD, Ward’s most recent album, and the focus of his
tour. Superseding notions of songs being either purposed for stadiums or solitude, Ward’s
empowering delivery and energetic stage presence during more heavy-hearted songs like
STRANGERS allowed for the evening’s mood to be unwaveringly positive.

Pieces of home set the stage for Apartment — a dreamy arrangement of furniture and lighting,
drawing the audience into the world designed for the 15-song album, BACKWARD— aligned
with the album’s thoughtful (and equally internally as externally conscious) collection of stories.
From STRANGERS to THEMSELVES, it is evident that Ward’s extrospective music is made for
reasons greater than himself.

Released in January 2026, with exciting collaborations with Smino, SAILORR, and TiaCorine,
The sounds of BACKWARD are bound to serve as a defining soundtrack across the remainder of
2026: a year that, although particularly full of uncertainty & hardship, is one that calls for
self-reflection, gratitude, and community— afforded and propelled through artists like Ward.

In an age when high-concept art and media often prioritize allure and abstraction over
relatability, Ward’s grounded lyricism and unrestrained delivery allow for raw recollections of the
so-called ordinary to hold a refreshing beauty in their universal, yet highly personal, themes. It
was that authenticity that allowed the audience, Ward’s fans, and first-time listeners to feel right
at home in the packed space of Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and it is that
same authenticity from figures in the arts & entertainment industry that has the power to heal
masses
