Headlining the Troubadour in West Hollywood is an achievement in itself for country artist Tyler Rich. Although he hasn’t played the venue yet, the words “Tyler Rich – SOLD OUT” have lived on the venue’s marquee for months, since his show, originally scheduled for March, was put on hold.
Rich, who has shared the stage with other country stars such as Dan + Shay and Sam Hunt, told this story and his inspiration behind his EP, Live At Home (out this Friday, July 31st) in a recent virtual press conference.
The lead single from the EP, “Feels Like Home,” is meant to make listeners feel nostalgic. The idea for the song that centers around, “people, places, and strangers that feel like home,” originated from his trip to Dublin a few years ago, where he stepped into a bar and felt at home, although he was so far away.
He likened the feeling to bars in small towns that have their own character– where everyone is welcomed as a friend the moment they walk in the door. While on the road, these bars are a staple for him (as well as many tourist destinations, which he admitted to loving).
Rich had an interesting way for revealing the track list for the EP on Instagram. He posted a photo of each of the five song titles written on random household objects, including a can and Scrabble board, to emphasize the ‘at home’ theme. Another picture included the track title “Leave Her Wild” written in lipstick on a mirror since he considers that his wife Sabina’s song.
In addition to these fun photos, Tyler Rich has also been using Instagram to create a new relationship with his fans. His “Feels Like Home Couch Series” and “Leave Her Wild Sunday Brunches” weekly livestreams feature him playing acoustic versions of his music and hanging out with friends and sometimes other songwriters that he invites to join the stream. Although it’s not the same as in-person concert, Rich still feels the energy and support of his dedicated followers.
