On Tuesday Nov. 24 Pittsburgh DJ-producer, MR. OWL and Philly-native emcee MR. JHAK released their debut album, “WHO KILLED THE PAGE WIZURD?” It is under the Pittsburgh-based ultramodern, bass-infused hip-hop label called Strix, which was established and is anchored by MR. OWL himself. Luckily Under the Radar features local musicians of all genres, so listen for these tracks on WHIP! The full-length LP has 16 tracks of Mr. JHAK’s rapping and MR. OWL production, a lush combo of futuristic hip-hop and bass-heavy electronica.
It is a concept record that examines the struggle between good and evil forces within each of us, personifying MR. JHAK’s dark aspects into a shadowy foe identified as the Page Wizurd. Only through rapping is Jhak able to first understand the Page Wizurd’s influence over his life. He will then attempt to overcome the wizurd. The backstory of the first track “Beacon” is one where two best friends link up to send a message through their collaboration. They would rework and regroup the music until the bars and instrumentals flow flawlessly.
“WHO KILLED THE PAGE WIZURD?” has become available to stream for free and for a name-your-price download at MrJhak.com and on band camp. A limited edition t-shirt is also available for purchase on bandcamp, featuring original comic style artwork, which chronicles the narrative of the album.
The lead single “Stigmatic Disease” is receiving strong underground support, and can be heard RIGHT NOW at MrJhak.com or on Soundcloud.
