The Wombats brought the heat to the suddenly brisk City of Brotherly Love this past Friday at the Fillmore in Fishtown. Following the release of their 2018 studio album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, the U.K. based band hopped on an ambitious tour to promote their fourth album from now until February. With a jam-packed 19 song set list, the Liverpool native threesome hosted a crowded gig with music lovers reliving their 2011 alt-rock dreams.
Starting off with “Cheetah Tongue,” Tord Knudsen set the show’s pace by bouncing around in every direction on stage with his bass guitar following every move. It was a high energy concert, it there was no logic or order to it, just pure music craze in the best possible way. Lights beamed out from every corner of the room ranging from any and all color and pulse.
The audience followed along with the band’s vivacity. Not a single person in the GA pit was still. Every hand was up and jumping to the beat. The highlight of the night was when The Wombats brought back two ultimate fan favorites: “Jump Into The Fog” and “Greek Tragedy.” With a thoughtful setlist and high paced show, The Wombats showed that the 2011 Alt-Rock dream can easily live on in 2018.
