Despite some changes within the lineup, there would be no let down on the second day of the Owls back-to-back weekend matches as the team dominated cross-city rival LaSalle.
After their 6-0 victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shores Friday morning, head coach Steve Mauro decided to change things up. Mauro had some new players take to the court heading in to the conference tournament in Memphis on Wednesday.
“We kind of changed it up a little bit,” Coach Mauro said, “We just want to make sure everyone is in playing shape for the upcoming tournament. They all can play on any given day, the girls that we have are strong players.”
These changes proved effective throughout the match, as the team got off to a very quick start sweeping the doubles matches by scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-0 in flights one through three respectively. This momentum continued in to the singles match ups as the Owls dominated all six flights winning nine of the twelve sets by a score of 6-0 and the other three by a score of 6-1.
Now with the regular season officially over, the team will look ahead to the postseason and the pursuit of a conference championship.
“The girls are excited about the upcoming tournament,” coach Mauro said. “I think everyone is pretty confident that we can do well.”
