Disney’s The Lion King (2019) released its first trailer for the public last week. In the span of its release, the trailer made history garnering the second most views for a trailer over the course of 24 hours.
The teaser collected a total of 224.6 million views on the internet in one day – second only to Avengers: Infinity War which accumulated 230 million views by hour 24. The Lion King is one of the most anticipated movies for fans of Disney worldwide in 2019.
Highlighting this upcoming film will be the stellar voice cast consisting of Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Keegan-Michael Key, James Earl Jones, and Seth Rogen. With a talented group on board, it doesn’t seem likely this movie will disappoint fans of the original from 1994.
However, there is controversy surrounding The Lion King. Disney claims this film is live-action despite the movie being made entirely with CGI. Nonetheless, I highly doubt movie goers will let that rain of their parade for their viewing of this remake.
The Lion King joins Dumbo and Aladdin as the other nostalgic Disney live-action remakes in 2019. Disney has discovered its new trend by recreating popular movies from their acclaimed eras in history. One of the earliest examples of this came in 2016 when Disney remade The Jungle Book.
Audiences immensely enjoyed their time watching The Jungle Book in theaters. Since then, Disney hasn’t looked back and is hoping to replicate that success for years to come.
The money Disney has made from these movies further illustrates why they constantly revert back to their old product. Nobody should be surprised if Disney breaks more box office records when The Lion King hits theaters this summer. The Lion King (2019) opens to audiences in the United States July 19, 2019.
