With spring break arriving, WHIP staff and members want to provide you with a curated playlist for your getaway, coupled with our favorite spring albums!
Erika Cutaia– Transparent World by Pool Holograph
Transparent World is like walking into the defrosting warmth of Spring. It is light, airy, yet has that perfect pace of eagerness that the start of spring brings for wanting to sprint toward further warmth. The album is adorned with all the goodness of pristine guitar tones, ethereal vocals, and infectious percussion to tap along with on your steering wheel as you drive with your windows cracked open.
Caitlin McGeehan– wear your heart out by nightly
In making “songs to drive to,” nightly has mastered springtime music. Their indie-pop sound is accompanied by their reflective lyrical storytelling. This album, released last summer, captures a bittersweet feeling. It’s kind of like spring cleaning when you pull out a shirt you’ve had for years and remember all of the memories you have with it, but also realize that it just might be time for it to go.
Eva Agabegi– She Hangs Brightly by Mazzy Star
She Hangs Brightly, Mazzy Star’s first studio album, released in 1990, still holds the test of time with its unique musical quality and addictive sonic presence. The piece is highlighted not only by Hope Sandoval’s effortlessly cool, moody vocals but also by the soft, dreamlike quality of its instrumentals. This album holds the beginnings of an iconic dream pop sound that has curated the mystical atmosphere the band’s later music emulates. It is imaginary and immersive, making it the perfect album to put on as spring approaches!
