A love story from out of this world premieres in theaters May 31st, Moonshot starring Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse. Moonshot tells the story of Sophie (Lana Condor) , a hopeless romantic involved in a long distance relationship with her boyfriend Calvin (Mason Gooding) from Mars. Sophie finds herself falling farther in distance from Calvin and decides to go on the mission from Earth to Mars in order to save her relationship. During her process of falling out of love and planning her trip to Mars, Sophie meets Walt (Cole Sprouse) who is more than a local barista, but a dreamer just like Sophie. Together, Walt and Sophie embark on the mission to Mars where not only do they find the true meaning of love, but more about themselves and their own personal future.
This film covers major conversations involving leaving what responsibility there is currently for a new mission such as forgetting issues about Earth to look forward to the possibility of Mars. In an exclusive interview with Moonshot’s leads, Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse discussed the major issues that revolve around this generation and today’s society. Cole shares that the film not only discusses the ‘What if’ of life outside Earth’s borders, but the importance of focusing on what is in front of us and not just an idea. He says, “what should our focus really be upon resource wise, should it be upon the future and prepping the future or something like Mars, which is now a question I can’t believe we’re even juggling around, but it is a question of our time. Do we plan to prepare another space of existence for us on a different planet or do we deal with the present issue and put our resources towards saving something that already exists”.
In the same interview with Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse the two shared not only an inside scoop of what to expect in the film, but their personal story from building their characters
to performing on set. When learning and building their roles Lana expressed how her own mother really impacted how she wished to portray Sophie. “I kind of just pulled from my mom for Sophie’s character traits” adding earlier how just like her mom, Sophie “ loves a plan, shes love to have control and to know the outcome of every situation”. Cole, unlike Lana, didn’t revolve much character development around his family, “Wanted him to feel like an old best friend, like the annoying guy who would hang around the edge of the group, someone approachable and friendly” and that his career with Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, “did more heavy lifting for him in this role than anything else.”
Moonshot is the film for all fans of comedy, hopeless romantics and SciFi fanatics coming to HBO Max May 31, 2022.
