The Student Staff Development and Advisory Committee, a branch of Temple Campus Recreation, held a dodgeball tournament on Friday Feb. 17 to benefit the children of 2005 Temple alum Tiffany Hamilton. Lutando Jr., London, and Laelia Hamilton lost their mother in 2012.
Erica Rothkopf, one of the organizers of the event explained the fundraiser’s significance.
“Campus Recreation, as a whole, decided that they wanted to do something great for this family who had experienced such a terrible tragedy,” Rothkopf said.
Since 2013, Temple Campus Recreation has held an annual fundraiser for the Hamilton family. Past events include volleyball, dodgeball, and basketball tournaments. The size of the fundraiser has varied each year, depending on the sport. The dodgeball competition has drawn well in the past, so the Student Staff Development and Advisory Committee decided to repeat the event this year.
11 teams of six to eight people signed up for the tournament. Campus Recreation reached out to sport clubs, intramurals, and other student organizations to attract more people.
All profits go directly to the Hamilton family, and the fundraiser is likely to continue as an annual event.
