Foxing Makes Progress with Dealer
WRITTEN BY: MARISA BLACKWELL
Foxing’s sophomore release, Dealer, lives up to the hype after Triple Crown Records released a teaser of the album with the track, “The Magdalene,” earlier this month.
Dealer delves deeper into a world of grief over family members and post-traumatic stress of being a band that quickly gained traction in the music world while feeling like they did not have the luxury to mature quietly, as most band do when they start out. Foxing has taken the time to explore their sound in the past year, while touring across the country with bands who have clearly influenced this album like The Hotelier, Brand New and Seahaven. Dealer shows the scope of their exploration and growth, but we can expect to hear an even softer sound from the band.
Somewhere in between “Laundered” and “Indica,” I found myself getting lost in the tracks. With stunning instrumentals throughout, listeners can almost experience the pain Connor Murphy indicates in his vocals. Not to forget about the haunting nature of the instrumental tracks, “Winding Cloth,” and “Coda.” The entire album is full of raw emotion that you almost feel weighed down with, like being alone and outside in the dead of winter.
Dealer may have landed a spot in my top 10 albums of the year.
