SHOW REVIEW: Trousdale at The Foundry

To catch a ride with Trousdale during their ongoing tour across the US is to immerse yourself in a celebration of womanhood. Their show at The Foundry on October 13th introduced the audience to members Lauren Jones, Quinn D’Andrea, and Georgia Greene – three women who formed a friendship during college and now create lyrical melodies that encourage self-love and acceptance. The euphoria that is tied to their stellar stage presence and the emotion found rooted in their lyrics combine to create a meaningful concert experience where attendees feel a sense of community and love.
Following Anna Vaus’s powerful ownership of the stage, the crowd was left in a state of anticipation for what was to come next. Trousdale’s arrival immediately took the crowd to a new level of excitement with their vibrant, joyful appearance and opening number “Love” – an energetic track that makes one feel as though life is a movie. Their energy matched that of the crowd, creating an atmosphere where every individual was overjoyed to be together in that moment. Their colorful outfits and stage design left an impression of exhilaration and a groovy aesthetic that captured my attention for the rest of the night.
Their current fall tour includes a diverse setlist of both upbeat and dreamy folk-pop songs such as “Smart Iowa” – a haunting track that reflects the beauty of finding happiness in ordinary things. I began focusing on the relatable lyrics of each song, particularly identifying with the emotions that accompany feeling unlike everyone else being depicted in tracks such as “For Months Now.”
Perhaps one of the most memorable moments from Trousdale’s time at The Foundry was when they brought a fan onstage to serenade them with their song “Movie Star,” an experience sure to cause the lucky individual to feel like a star themself. This component of the show only heightened the familial aura created by the band. Another highlight of the electric set was the mesmerizing instrumentals carried out by all three women along with their drummer and guitarist. To be able to maintain the audience’s energy while simultaneously playing their own instruments and delivering meaningful lyrics is a skill not possessed by all musicians; however Trousdale did this effortlessly and with a unique flair.
As a newcomer to Trousdale’s fanbase, I did not know what to expect coming into the show at The Foundry. However, I was pleasantly surprised and overjoyed at the crowd engagement and the beautiful harmonies that are rooted in Trousdale’s musical style. Since seeing them live, I have had their new album Out of My Mind holding the top spot in my music rotation. Trousdale’s “Catching A Ride Tour” ends on October 27th. The empowerment promoted by the group is sure to inspire women of all ages and their lyrics validate the less talked about feelings of their listeners.
