Calm Down About Jaden Smith and Tyler The Creator

Earlier this month, Jaden Smith shocked fans during his set at the 2018 Camp Flog Gnaw music festival, by proclaiming that Tyler, the Creator is actually his boyfriend. This peaked the interest of many in attendance and online, leading publications like Independent to report the story.

In the video attached above, Smith can be heard saying…

“Tyler doesn’t wanna say, but Tyler is my motherf***ing boyfriend, and he’s been my motherf***ing boyfriend my whole motherf***ing life. It’s true! Tyler is my boyfriend.”

Tyler can be seen shaking his head no, adamantly denying and laughing at the claims made. Jaden, laughing as well would then lead you to believe that it was all a joke. It was clearly a joke, right?

Well, Jaden doubled down on his claims later, during the (Nov. 23) episode of his Beats 1 Radio Show, MSFTS Frequency.

So, is it true? Could we really be witnessing one of the most empowering, artistically savvy, openly gay couples of the 21st century make their way into the public eye?

To that I say, not just yet.

But before anyone can get on my case, let me just say that I am a fan of both. I’ve been listening to Tyler for almost 8 years and would consider him to be my favorite artist right now for reasons I can not fit into this article. I have recently gotten to familiarize myself with Jaden’s work over the last year with his album “SYRE” and his most recent release, “The Sunset Tapes”.

So before I begin tearing down everyone’s hopes and dreams of them being a couple, I would like to say that this being true would undoubtedly be monumental and something worth noting.

But due to the fact that this was initially a joke that the internet (with the help of Jaden) decided to run with, it’s now being taken as credible and I can’t respect that.

What ever happened to concrete evidence? For one, Tyler has denied these rumors with a tweet in response to Jaden, saying “Hahaha you a crazy n***a man.” It is well known that they have been friends for a while and that Jaden idolizes him as an artist, but from what I remember, relationships need to be confirmed by both parties before it is said to be anything.

Since Tyler is known to always joke around, it makes his denial less credible. It’s a combination of that, and the fact that he has come forth earlier this year about his sexuality, which is covered here by Complex, making this grab of a story slightly more believable.

With that being said, the media tends to grab at stories revolving around sexuality a bit too quickly, as if they were a scandal. With Tyler and Jaden, I think that this is just a joke gone too far.

But then again, who am I to know? I don’t. There’s a possibility that they’ve been keeping things hidden, I’m sure. But I’m not buying it, at least not yet until I see visual evidence like this, that shows Jaden Smith out on a date in Paris with an unknown woman.
