How Campus Curlz is Combing Through Temple

Temple’s newest club, Campus Curlz, is having their first interest meeting Wednesday in the Howard Gittis Student Center Underground.
Officially recognized by the university, the mission of Campus Curlz is to educate everyone on the value of natural black hair. The group also provides tips on how to maintain curls.
India Green, Campus Curlz Temple Ambassador and President, expressed joy over the support they received from other organizations on campus.
“I was really on top of student activities with trying to get our approval process fast… because we were here for TempleFest… and we see that everyone else is excited,” Green said. “I feel that us being around on campus gives that reassurance that we are here to help each other… There’s no org like this on campus.”
The group is a chapter of the original Campus Curlz organization that started at Hampton University in Virginia.
Campus Curlz is all-inclusive and welcomes members from all groups to join their community.
Julia Sozio, an art education major, is one of several students that showed initial interest to the club.
“I would like to see tips because even though I’m someone with white hair… A lot of the products that are out, don’t help my hair,” Sozio said.
Campus Curlz plans to work with other Temple organizations like S.M.O.O.T.H. and the Black Pre-Health Association (BPHA) to promote their message.
The club can be followed on Twitter and Instagram at @campuscurlztu and Owl Connect.
